Located in Dazhou city of Sichuan Province, Sichuan University of Arts and Science (SASU) is the only bachelor degree granting university in eastern Sichuan province. Upholding the schooling spirit - "difficulties and hardships are the nurse of greatness", the university has cultivated more than 70,000 talents during its over 40 years schooling history, which makes great contributions to the cultural and educational advancement, social and economic development of local district and even the whole Sichuan province. 

    The history of SASU can be traced back to Longshan Academy (established in 1821, 1st year of Daoguang, Emperor of the Qing Dynasty), and it established normal education in 1907. Since 1976 it has been undertaking higher education and was named Daxian Normal College. Approved by the State Council in 1978 as a national full-time college, “Daxian Normal College” was changed to “Daxian Teacher’s College” and later known as “Daxian Teachers’ Higher College”. Confirmed by the Ministry of Education in 2006, it was upgraded to an undergraduate university and named “Sichuan University of Arts and Science”. It passed the assessment for the granting right of bachelor's degree in 2010, and in 2012 it successfully passed the evaluation for the undergraduate teaching qualification from the Ministry of Education. In 2016 SASU was identified as Pilot Unit of University's Overall Transformation and Development in Sichuan Province. In 2018 it became the candidate unit for master's degree granting university of Sichuan province. The university has been awarded several titles such as "Model School of National Defense Education" by the Ministry of Education, "Civilized Campus of Sichuan Province", "Model Unit of Running School according to Law in Sichuan Province", "Advanced Unit of Employment of College Students in Sichuan Province", and "Garden Campus of Sichuan Province".

    SASU consists of two campuses: Lianhu Campus and Nanba Campus, occupying 714,333 square meters with over 330,000 square meters of construction area. Its total value of the equipment for teaching and scientific research is about 109 million Yuan. It has 264 professors or associate professors, and 80% of its 1,100 faculty members have a doctorate or master’s degree. In addition, it has 10 foreign teachers, 3 academic and technical leaders and 6 reserve candidates of Sichuan Province, 3 outstanding contribution experts. Admitting students from 21 provinces, it has over 14,000 full-time enrolled students.
